The area between Glienicke Bridge and Cecilienhof Palace in the New Garden is one of the most popular destinations in Potsdam. Little remains of the frontier barrier to remind us that up until 1990 the border between the GDR and West Berlin traversed this very spot, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. In April, an exhibition with eight information pillars was opened along the former border strip in Potsdam. The exhibition extends from Glienicke Bridge to Bertinistrasse, where a key East–West border crossing for maritime traffic existed from 1964 to 1990. The project was conducted as a collaborative effort between the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam and the Erinnerungsorte Potsdamer Grenze e.V. society.
